Ruto gets his moment with Obama at State House
Pictures of the moment Deputy President William Ruto shook hands with US president Barack Obama at State House, Nairobi have gone viral.
The DP is seen sharing a light moment with President Obama while President Uhuru Kenyatta looks on.
The DP had arrived at State House for bilateral talks between Kenya and US. which will be chaired by President Obama and President Kenyatta.
Pictures showing Mr Ruto’s arrival at State House were first tweeted Saturday afternoon by government newsroom, Nexus Kenya.
The bilateral talks are taking place on Saturday afternoon after which the two presidents will hold a joint press conference at 4:30pm.
Political analysts had urged President Obama to meet and shake hands with DP Ruto while in Kenya.
Speculation had been rife in recent days that Obama would be uncomfortable within the presence of Ruto during his stay in Kenya.
Mr Ruto is currently defending himself from charges of crimes against humanity leveled against him by the Hague based International Criminal Court, and America has in the past indicated that it is not comfortable working with leaders facing charges in court.
