Ruto: Raila is using violence to scare rivals in Kisumu
Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate William Ruto has accused Azimio’s Raila Odinga, his main opponent in the August 2022 polls, of blocking him from campaigning in parts of Western Kenya.
Speaking at a political rally in Uasin Gishu County, Ruto, the outgoing Deputy President, stressed that Odinga has no agenda and has now resorted to violence so as to have an upper hand in the polls.
The DP did not provide proof of his claims while hinting he might not visit Kisumu before the August 9 polls.
“You (Odinga) came here (Eldoret) yesterday and campaigned peacefully,” said Ruto
“But you are afraid that Nyanza people will dump you and support me (if I campaign there). He has blocked the region with ‘stones and rocks’ so that I don’t access the region,” claimed Ruto.
Ruto’s convoy was attacked by stones when he last campaigned in Kisumu and Migori counties in 2021.
Ruto also suggested the supposed lack of agenda made Odinga skip the presidential debate.
he also claimed that Raila’s lack of agenda made him cower facing him in the presidential debate.
Ruto has however promised to develop the Nyanza region, which is Odinga’s stronghold.
Ruto also hit out at unnamed people in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government whom he accused of attempting to manipulate the outcome of the general elections.
