President William Ruto says he will not relent in resorting to prayers to grow the country’s economy and tackle other challenges bedeviling the country including drought.

The Head of State said it is through prayers that the country has witnessed rains and he is determined to ensure that the nation gets out of the current situation where it is in massive debt.

“You remember last year we came to this stadium and there was drought in Kenya, the worst in 40 years, we have never had proper rains for the last five years, we came and prayed in this field many people mocked us and said look at these ones but who is God,” said President Ruto.

“Last year we had rain because women and men of God prayed and we had the best rain in the last 10 years. Already there is writing on the wall Kenya is going to go places,” He added.

He was speaking on Sunday evening at Nyayo National Stadium where American televangelist Benny Hinn has been holding a two-day crusade dubbed ‘Healing the Nation’.

The President was accompanied by First Lady Rachel Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, his spouse Dorcas, Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka among other politicians and religious leaders.

In a characteristic style of a revered and respected preacher reminiscent of his days in the Christian Union at the University of Nairobi, the President quoted Deuteronomy 15:6 which speaks of how God will turn nations into a lender and not borrowers.

He asserted that Kenya will see a turnaround in its economy and will be lending to other countries after coming out of its current debt of about Sh11 trillion.

“Kenya is going to be a great country not just in Africa but globally. Kenya is going to be greater than what you see and it is because we believe in the living God,” said the President.

The Commander in Chief claimed that he got the revelation in 2006 that he would be the president of Kenya during such a crusade in the United States and that is why he believes in prayers to solve challenges of the nation.

“The first time I got a revelation that I was going to be President of Kenya was in 2006 during the AZUSA 100 celebration of revival in the US and I was there with my wife, Reverend Bishop Adoyo (Boniface). I couldn’t believe the son of Sugoi would one day be a President of Kenya,” he said.

He said that his upcoming state visit to the US shows that Kenya is on the right track to economic transformation. This would be the first state visit of an African President to the US in a span of 20 years.

Mr Gachagua said the Kenya Kwanza regime is God sent and all their plans will succeed despite the country undergoing a tough economic situation since they came to power.

The two-day crusade which ended on Sunday was attended by leading religious leaders Arthur Gitonga, Gerishom Kibarabara, Mark Kariuki, Margaret Wanjiru, Ezekiel Odero and Pius Muiru.
