Ruto’s children ‘enjoyed’ themselves while their home was under siege

Two of Deputy President William Ruto’s children were enjoying themselves watching an international volleyball match on Saturday afternoon while their family home in Uasin Gishu was under siege.

The siege at Mr Ruto’s home lasted several hours after unknown numbers of attackers stormed the heavily guarded home barely hours after the DP left to join President Uhuru Kenyatta on the campaign trail in Kitale in the neighbouring Trans Nzoia County.

Elite police officers would later end the siege although details of exactly what happened during the siege remain scanty.

But seemingly obvious of the happenings at their home, the DP’s eldest son, Nick, and his sister Claire were spotted at the Kasarani indoor arena in Nairobi watching the volleyball match between Kenya and Rwanda in the Volleyball World Championship qualifiers.

TIGHT SECURITY

The two Ruto siblings were however accorded tight security by plain clothes security personnel, as they watched the Kenyan women’s team comfortably winning the match 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-16) to seal their place in the Africa Nations Championships.

All through the two looked jovial and happy, occasionally cracking jokes and at one point Claire even court got down to the court to try her hands on the game under instructions from women volleyball team coach David Lung’aho and veteran player Brackcides Agala.

Never for a moment did they seem affected by news that armed gunmen were battling police officers at their Sugoi home and Claire would later say:

“I love this game and want to learn it. I can see my age mates are playing it and really excited. My dad played this game in High School so he retains a huge passion for it.”
