Sakaja to attend Democrat’s convention for Hillary Clinton’s nomination

July 16th, 2016 1 min read

TNA chairman Johnson Sakaja will attend the National Democratic Convention where Mrs Hillary Clinton will formally be nominated to contest the US presidential election.

The NDC, to be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from July 25 to 28, is the gathering at which delegates of the US Democratic Party will choose their nominees for President and Vice President in the November election.

Mrs Clinton, who may make history as the first woman President in the US, will face off with Republican nominee Donald Trump who will be officially be nominated by his party just a week before.

Mr Sakaja sees the invite as an opportunity to not only learn from the US democrats on the conduct of party affairs but an honour to represent the ruling Jubilee Coalition.

YOUNG DEMOCRACY

“Kenya is a young democracy and we must take every opportunity to learn when we can. Our new Jubilee Party will be the largest party in Kenya and we can learn a lot from the US Democratic Party as we prepare for the 2017 elections,” Mr Sakaja said.

The TNA chairman, who has declared that he will run for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat next year, added that he would use the opportunity to learn how to ensure such a large party stays strong and together.

“I also want to see how young people and women are getting involved in party matters in the US. As you know, as TNA and Jubilee, we have always created space for young people and women but we want to engage them more, ” he said.
