Salary crisis hits K’Ogalo ahead of league match
Gor Mahia’s camp is in turmoil following delay in settling salaries and winning bonuses of the technical bench members and the playing unit ahead of Thursday’s Kenyan Premier League match against Bandari at the Nairobi City Stadium.
A member of the technical bench, who spoke to Nairobi News on condition of anonymity said that the backroom staff was fast losing patience with the club management over their “ineptitude and the way they are running the club.”
The source told Nairobi News that the technical bench members are still owed substantial amount of their January and February salaries and pleas to the management to settle the matter has fell on deaf ears.
Gor partially paid the players’ salaries for February with the balance being settled on Monday, but the source claimed that some of the players still claim arrears.
Nairobi News has also established that club’s star signings last January Abouba Sibomana and Karim Nizigiyimana, are also threatening to terminate their contracts with the club as they are yet to be paid part of their sign-on fees nearly three months after joining the club. The duo joined K’Ogalo from Rwandan side Rayon Sports.
The biting financial crisis has seen some of the players boycott training and the source said that Nuttall is at pains to deal with the issue.
“Innocent Wafula has been AWOL for the last seven days over monetary issues. This is a player who can win you a game any day. The coach has been to the office on more than seven occasions to have this matter addressed but nothing has been done,” the source said.
SKIPPED TRAINING
“On Tuesday, Israel Emuge and Timothy Otieno did not turn up for training while on Wednesday Karim and Sibomana also skipped training.
If you talk to them, they’ll tell you it’s all about their salaries. Things are getting out of hand because the officials do not want to run things professionally,” added the source.
Liberian defender, Dirkir Glay, also risks being not fielded in future matches as his work permit has expired.
The club’s acting secretary general Ronald Ngala confirmed the claims saying that the club is addressing the matter.
“It’s true we owe them some money but we are in the process of sorting it out,” Ngala said.
The official said that the club had called for a meeting with the representatives of Sibomana and Karim to iron out the misunderstanding.
