Outgoing Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya says he is satisfied with the contribution he made to the ministry during his reign and will not concentrate on farming as he exits the civil service.

He spoke during the handover of the Ministry to the incoming Cooperatives CS Simon Chelugui.

Also present to hand over at the event was Trade and Industrialization CS Betty Maina.

Chelugui who was the only CS to be retained from former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s cabinet takes over following a stint at the Labor and Social Protection ministry.

Munya, who until recently was a fierce critic of President William Ruto, lauded the Head of State for introducing the MSMEs sector.

“Our economy is driven by SMEs. it is important and commendable to have this sector,” said Munya.

Ms. Maina observed the government had developed barriers and programs to support the SMEs, saying the sector has work sites across the country that the new CS will work with to help boost the country.

“The role you are going to play is very critical agenda of our country and the agenda of the new government. SMEs make up more than 90 percent of the economy of the country so if there is going to be growth in the economy, it is going to be signified by growth among SMEs,” Said Ms. Maina.

Chelugui assured Kenyans the hustler fund will not take over the affirmative funds but rather it will be making an intervention.
