Sauti Sol admit they can’t afford to release new song every month

Celebrated Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol had in November 2017 assured their loyal fans that they were in for a bumper musical year.

This is after the ‘Sura Yako’ hit makers revealed that they have already recorded a total of 11 new songs which were to be released before 2018 ends.

The plan was to serve Kenyans with a new Sauti Sol jam every month, but unfortunately they have run out of cash.

On Wednesday, Bien Aime Baraza revealed that have gone slow on the promise due to financial constraints.

“We took a break because we realised we did not have the required financial muscle to keep up with the releases and push the project to a global scale. We have, however, signed deals with international record labels and from next year we will be back on track,” Bien said at a media briefing in Westlands.

In the beginning of the year, the award winning group started with gusto releasing hits such as ‘Melanin‘ that featured Nigerian musician  Patoraking, ‘Short n’ Sweet‘ that featured fellow Kenyan hit maker Nyashinski and ‘Rewind‘ that featured Kenyan rapper  Khaligraph Jones.

However they slowed down mid-way and haven’t released anything since their most politically conscious track ‘Tujiangalie‘ that featured Nyashinki in August.

In an interview in January, band member Savara said; “Right now we are working on a project dubbed ‘African Sauce’, so we are doing collaborations with African artistes from across the continent, from Nigeria, Tanzania, South Africa and Uganda.”

Sauti Sol is set to perform at the second edition of the annual Diani Beach Festival this December alongside Nyashinski, H_art the Band and Dj Kace in late December.
