Scare as pilot who ‘lost direction’ lands chopper on busy highway – PHOTOS

A pilot who reportedly lost direction to his destination landed his helicopter on a busy highway on Saturday morning.

The pilot landed the chopper in Bondo town on the Kisumu – Usenge highway. He briefly disembarked to ask the local residents for directions, before returning to the aircraft and taking off.

The pilot was the lone passenger during the incident.

Vehicles on the highway parked by the roadside and the brief incident did not occasion any traffic build-up..

The incident was captured in a video footage shot by a motorist who was using the road.

Members of the public rushed to the scene near Pride Hotel, a few metres from the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University, to have a glimpse of the aircraft.

“Vehicles had to stop on both sides of the highway until the chopper, which only had the pilot on board, took off,” said Mr Philip Okello, an eyewitness.

Mr Okello said he was driving from Bondo to Kisumu when the incident happened.

“I had to stop abruptly as I saw the plane fly lower than usual. Suddenly it landed on the tarmac attracting a large crowd,” Mr Okello said.

He disclosed that the aircraft did not take long before taking off.

“The pilot seemed to have had a brief chat with a member of the public by the roadside before he flew away. He may have lost direction,” added the eyewitness.
