School remains silent over death of two children

The administration of Fadhili Junior School, whose school bus crushed two children to death on Thursday, have remained tight-lipped over the matter even after parents and residents of Umoja 2 stormed the school seeking an explanation.

On Saturday morning, Nairobi News was denied entry into the school when it attempted to reach the school administration for an interview over the matter.

Security officers manning the school gate only said that they had been given strict instructions not let in any unauthorized persons. Also denied entry were other members of the public.

On Thursday afternoon, two children who were riding their bicycles were crushed to death by Fadhili Junior School bus.

The deceased have been identified as Dominic Kimani, 7, and Wycliffe Bob, 12. Witnesses said the two boys were riding on the same bicycle near the school gate when the incident happened.

The bus driver fled the scene but later presented himself at Buruburu Police Station where he is being held in custody as police investigate the matter.

KNOCKED DOWN

In another incident, a child lost his life when a matatu belonging to Umoinner sacco knocked him down alongside his mother and brother in Shauri Moyo estate on Friday evening.

The matatu which is said to have been over-speeding drove away leaving the mother and her two children on the accident scene.

The three family members were taken to Kenyatta national Hospital where one of the children succumbed to his injuries and died. The two other victims are still admitted in hospital.

A representative of the sacco who spoke to Nairobi News on condition of anonymity said recent accidents involving vehicles in their fleet is giving them negative publicity which is affecting their business.

“We are very concerned by the growing public perception that Umoinner matatus are notorious for accidents and other traffic offence. There have been some incidents where we’ve been accused of accidents which were are responsible for,” our source said.
