Security lights to be installed in UoN tunnel

By LYNET IGADWAH November 30th, 2013 1 min read

Plans are underway to install security lights at the University of Nairobi tunnel under Uhuru Highway.

The tunnel has been characterized by muggings especially at night.

UoN Deputy Vice Chancellor Peter Mbithi says installations will be done by a team of students from the institution.

“The group comprising Electrical Engineering students will undertake the project which will be done innovatively to curb crime,” said Prof Mbithi.

While holding back on any more details, he hinted the lights will be solar powered.

He spoke on Friday at the closing ceremony of the University of Nairobi’s 100 Days Rapid Results Initiative.

The 100 days drive that started on 12 August 2013 sought to sensitize the University’s community on their role in implementation of the constitution.

Vice Chancellor George Magoha said if the constitution is implemented fully, it will help in ending tribalism.
