Swiftly assembled commando unit had no idea of deadly terror attack scene
The Rapid Response Units deployed to 14 Riverside complex last week had no idea that they were headed to the scene of a deadly terror attack that would result to the death of one of their own.
This is according to Ali Kombo, a Police Constable from the General Service Unit (GSU) whose photos while saving lives during the attack went viral during the rescue mission.
Speaking during an interview on NTV on Tuesday night, the officer said that he was motivated by the fact that his work mandates him to save as many lives as possible.
“My job mandates me to save as many lives as possible and that is what I was doing,” Kombo said.
He said that he never knew why they were rushing all the way to Dusit D2 and they were only responding to an emergency as the norm is.
SAVE LIVES
“We are always stationed at the camp, so if anything happens at any time, either day or night, we have to respond to any emergency call. We got the orders to evacuate and save lives on arrival,” he said.
Mr Kombo also said that all the credit should not fall on him as he was working together with his colleagues.
“This is not about Ali Kombo, it is about all of our security forces that jointly worked to deal with the emergency then,” he said.
The police constable also revealed that he had no idea of the number of lives he saved during the attack.
The 14 Riverside premises was on Tuesday last week attacked by suspected terrorists in an incident that led to the loss of d 21 lives.
So far, more than 10 people linked to the attack are being held police custody as investigations continue.
