Semelang’o draws the battle lines

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidential candidate Gor Semelang’o has launched a bare-knuckled attack on his opponents in the forthcoming football elections.

Briefing reporters in Nairobi on Friday, Semelang’o also put a robust defence of his candidacy for the FKF chairmanship in the November 13 elections.

“I blame people like Nick Mwendwa, who has been in the system. He has been part of the retrogressive election rules. Fifa must be fully informed of the developments in Kenya. They warned of the possibility of rigging but regardless I will become the president of FKF,” he said.

Semelang’o, who has been accused by his critics of using the elections as a launching pad to seek higher political office in future, explained that he is running to clean the rot in football.

He said that he will put special emphasis on grassroot and women football, which he argued has been sidelined.

His criticism of the election rules come barely two-days after Fifa warned FKF against shifting from the branch-based delegate format to county delegate system.

Semelang’o alongside the incumbent Sam Nyamweya, Kariobangi Sharks chairman Nick Mwendwa and former Kenya international Sam Sholei are widely viewed as the front-runners for the top seat.
