Senator Aaron Cheruiyot warns politicians attending Raila’s rallies and expecting ‘development’

Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has accused Siaya governor James Orengo of bashing President William Ruto’s government in public and then silently seeking assistance from it in private.

The vocal Senator wondered why Mr Orengo consistently visits government offices in search of development projects if he did not believe in the government.

Speaking in his Kericho home turf at an event attended by Mr Gachagua, the Senator suggested politicians who attend Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s rallies will not be entertained in government offices.

“If you do not recognize the government then it does not recognize you,” he warned.

“You cannot be in rallies charging at the government during weekends and then on Monday we find you in a Principal Secretary’s office asking for water for your people. Go to Raila and ask him to give you water,” he charged.

Cheruiyot maintained that opposition-allied politicians should respect the government even if they decide to criticize it.

He also hit out at Mr Odinga, accusing him of ‘refusing to retire’ from politics despite having lost in five presidential elections since 1997.

“There is nothing of importance they are coming to see in your rallies. If they had something of importance they wanted from you, they would have voted you in.”

Accompanied by his close allies Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa, Mr Odinga has been organising nationwide rallies in which he has questioned the legitimacy of President William Ruto and his government.
