Shabana FC patron Sam Nyamweya has described the team’s start to the 2023/2024 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League season as ‘encouraging’ while announcing plans for stakeholders to raise funds to support the club’s assignments.

In an interview with Nairobi News, Nyamweya said he expects the team to pick more points after the international break.

Shabana has picked up a point out of a possible six in the opening two fixtures in the top-flight after a 1-1 draw away to Talanta and a solitary loss to Murang’a Seal.

“The team played very well in these two matches and we should have gotten more. We have a two-week break and the lads will intensify training to enable us come back strongly. We are gunning for our first win in the league soon,” observed Nyamweya.

The veteran football administrator further pointed out that he is working round the clock to improve the team’s coffers.

“Following our promotion to the top-flight, our expenses have increased tenfold. We are having meetings and looking around to ensure that we provide for the team as required.”

“We are planning a fundraiser and all the proceeds will be channeled to the team. The planning commitee has set up a list of guests who will soon be informed and we will then announce the date and venue of the event.”

Nyamweya added: “Shabana Football Club will be run as Corporate entity devoid of divisive politics and reflect the community aspirations and welfare of the players and the technical bench being key. Salaries and allowances of the players and technical team will be paid directly to their bank accounts. Other welfare support like medical insurance and a savings plans will later be unveiled to ensure retention of players and the technical team.”

Shabana have temporary moved their home matches to the Raila Odinga Stadium at the neighbouring Homa Bay county so as to allow the Gusii stadium be renovated to meet the criteria of hosting high risk matches.

The newly promoted side will next face fellow strugglers Police FC in Nairobi in a league clash on September 16, 2023.
