She hasn’t been hired: Real reason why Kamene Goro has returned to NRG Radio

Media personality Kamene Goro once more had her name top on the list of trending items this week with the news that she is making her radio comeback on NRG radio.

The news came hot on the heels of her private wedding to her fiancé DJ Bonez. Backed by a poster release, the widely published reports suggested that Kamene would be joining NRG radio once again, this time teaming up with renowned radio guru Shaffie Weru and DJ Pierra Makena to host a show dubbed ‘NRG Transit’ on Fridays.

However, it has been established that Kamene hasn’t been rehired by the radio station but she is part of a brand activation partnership between NRG radio and a new liquor Glendale Whiskey which is pushing to establish a name for itself in the Kenyan market.

“What I understand is that it’s just a brand activation for Glendale and not employment. MC Jessy, Betty Kyalo and DJ Malaika will host the same segment on Thursday,” a source privy to the gig revealed to Nairobi News.

Kamene’s exit from NRG in 2019 wasn’t harmonious resulting in a lawsuit with the radio management suing her for breach of contract.

NRG Radio filed a suit against Kamene and her then co-host Andrew Kibe at the Employment and Labour Relations Court for an injunction to stop the one-time buddies from going live on air at their new station then Kiss FM.

Since then, word has it that there has been an existence of bad blood between Kamene and the NRG radio leadership that is yet to be repaired.

As such, it’s only business interests that have brought together both parties. The Scotch whiskey launched in Kenya about two months ago picked MC Jessy as its official brand ambassador.
