Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secretary-general Edwin Sifuna has defended the move by President Uhuru Kenyatta to support Raila Odinga ahead of the August 2022 polls.

Sifuna, who is gunning for the Nairobi Senator seat, argued, that President Kenyatta, is, like other Kenyans, free to support any person.

Sifuna also explained, during a church service in Nairobi, that the retiring Head of State had fulfilled his promises to Kenyans and was now free to support a leader who would carry on his legacy and has the interest of people at heart.

“President Kenyatta has worked for the people for the past nine years. All of us have seen his dedication and the projects he has completed. It is a year of politics. The president is also a politician. We can’t expect him to go home and begin farming. He has to be involved,” said Mr Sifuna.

He has also rubbished claims by a politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto, that President Kenyatta’s move to support Raila is aimed at bringing chaos in the country.

“The president made the decision to work together with the Azimio la Umoja coalition. We have decided that we will work together with the Jubilee party to form a government that will benefit all Kenyans, ”said Mr Sifuna.

Sifuna also urged political aspirants to refrain from hate speech.

President Kenyatta recently told a section of youth at State House that he believed Raila Odinga was the best person to unite Kenyans.
