Why Simba coach went AWOL during Homeboyz match

African problems seem all too similar. How else could you explain reports suggesting that Simba coach Pierre Lechantre is on strike?

On Thursday, the Frenchman, who won the league title with the Tanzanian club, was missing in action at the dugout when his team faced Kakamega Homeboyz in the semis of the SportPesa Super Cup at Afraha Stadium.

Instead, the Africa Nations Cup title-winning coach sat and followed the action from the main stands during the contest.

The coach later told Mwanaspoti he had voluntarily left the coaching reigns to one of his assistants, a Burundian national.

Nairobi News, however, understands Lechantre’s no-show was a sign of discontent with how the club’s management has treated him.

It has been reported that the coach’s contract with the Msimbazi street-based side expires on June 10 but the management has not offered him a new deal.

Either way, Simba players didn’t seem to miss their coach, as the team eliminated Homeboyz 5-4 score on post match penalties after a scoreless 90 minutes.

Gor Mahia meanwhile defeated Singida United 2-0 in the other semi final match to set up a mouthwatering clash with Simba in the final on Sunday.
