John Macharia, son of SK Macharia, dies in freak road accident – PHOTOS


Kenyan media mogul SK Macharia’s son, John Macharia, is dead.

John died on Thursday night at the Karen Hospital where he had been rushed to after a freak accident along the Southern bypass.

His passenger survived.

Karen OCPD Cunningham Suiyanka confirmed that there was a self-involved accident at 10pm on the Southern bypass. He said one person died but declined to give further details.

The self-involved accident happened at 10pm when John, who is said to have been speeding lost control of his Porsche 911 Turbo S 2016 car.

A 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S costs between Sh8.5 million ($85,350) and Sh13.3 million ($133,850).

The Porsche 911 Turbo S car has an engine capacity of 3800 CC. It runs on diesel. The vehicle is a 2016 model which was registered in Kenya on June 14 of the same year under AKM Investment Limited. Its top speed is 350kph.

The same vehicle was involved in an accident along Waiyaki Way in November 2016. He was later arrested and charged with drink driving.

John was the director and founder of Triple A Finance and Direct Line Assurance and he was also the heir apparent to SK Macharia’s estate that includes Royal Media Services, the owners of Citizen TV and radio, Inooro TV and radio and a host of other FM stations.
