Slain IEBC official Daniel Musyoka to be laid to rest today

Mr Daniel Mbolo Musyoka, 53, an official of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) who was murdered and his body dumped in the Loitoktok area, Kajiado County will be laid to rest today (Friday, August 26, 2022).

In a statement by the electoral agency, Mr Musyoka who was the senior Election Officer in Embakasi East will be laid to rest in Muuani village, Mwala Sub-County in Machakos County.

“The cortege leaves the Montezuma Funeral Home in Machakos town on Friday, August 26, 2022, at 8 am. The funeral service and burial ceremony will be on the same day starting at 11 am at his home in Mwala Sub-County, Machakos County,” the statement by IEBC read in part.

The Embakasi East Returning Officer went missing on Thursday, August 11, in unclear circumstances and the announcement was made to the public by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati a day later.

It is then that Mr Musyoka’s family came out and said that they had tried to reach out to the deceased for 48 hours but could not get him on his phone.

The deceased sister, Ms Veronicah Njeri, said that the family first heard about his disappearance when it was announced by Mr Chebukati.

Sleuths attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) days after Mr Musyoka’s body was discovered said that the officers were pursuing a mysterious caller who reached out to him while he was at the East Africa School of Aviation tallying centre which is located in Embakasi East constituency.

He then walked out of the tallying center and it was the last place that he was seen alive by his colleagues. Some of his colleagues have also recorded statements with the police over the incident.

“Currently, the phone records are part of the focus as this investigation goes on,” said the detective, who did not want to be named as they were not authorised to speak to the media.

“It will be important to know who is the person who made the call that saw the returning officer leave his work station never to be seen again until his body was found this week.”
