Slain Ivy Wangechi laid to rest in Nyeri – PHOTOS / VIDEO

A sombe mood engulfed a village in Othaya, Nyeri Courty as slain Moi University medical student Ivy Wangechi was laid to rest on Friday afternoon.

Hundreds of mourners who include students and local leaders gathered for her send off in Mahiga.

Mourners arrived dressed in black attire, with green scarfs around their shoulders.

Moi University students carry the remains of Ivy Wangechi, who was allegedly slain by her lover, at Mahiga primary school grounds in Nyeri for her burial.

Students of Moi University, where Ivy was a sixth year medical student, carried the casket bearing her remains from the hearse that ferried her body from Kenyatta University mortuary in Nairobi.

Leaders present included Othaya MP Gichuki Mugambi, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and and Nyeri Woman Representative Rahab Mukami.

Wangechi was hacked to death by her childhood friend Naftali Kinuthia at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.

The 25-year-old had just completed doing her practical at the hospital when she was attacked with an axe and a knife.

Her attacker is in police custody facing murder charges.
