SNAPPY 7: Miss World Kenya – Just give up on trying to date me

After playing second fiddle for more than eight months, the newly crowned Miss World Kenya 2016 Evelyn Njambi is over the moon at the chance to represent Kenya in this year’s pageant.

The 22 year-old Maseno University student was controversially crowned Miss Kenya after the local franchise holders dethroned Roshanara Ebrahim in unclear circumstance.

She talked to Nairobi News about her life and future plans.

Briefly tell us about yourself? – I’m a simple compassionate, fun, community minded individual who loves to swim. I am so much into fashion and I love royalty. I actually follow so much about the royal family in Britain and I just love the royal emblem.

I was born and raised in Parklands, I attended Hospital Hill Primary School before joining Pangani Girls High School. My family is generally tall and I stand at 5.9 feet tall.

When did you develop an interest in modelling? – From a young age no matter where I was, I used to watch Miss Universe which used to air during the Christmas holidays. When I joined Maseno University, I tried for the Miss University and it didn’t go so well, so I decided to put it aside and concentrate on my education.

The when I heard about Miss World Kiambu County, I decided to try it out and I ended up winning, which meant that I was to represent the county at the national level.

What’s your style? – I just love anything girly, anything that brings the girly side of me out. Floral things and when it comes to make up I also love the touch of nude.

What is the weirdest question that someone has ever asked you? – That has to be the most embarrassing question and I will not answer it for you.

Are you dating? – No I’m not dating and I am not planning to anytime soon. I’m really focused on what I am doing and if you are out there and trying, just give up.

As a model, do you have to watch what you eat every single time? – At the end of the day it depends on someone’s body. Some people have to be strict in order not to add weight. I watch what I eat because it reflects on your body and skin.

In the morning I will wake up and eat an orange and drink some warm water, then wait for 30 minutes before you can eat something heavy. The orange is very good for the skin and warm water is used to detox your body.

What are your future plans? – I intend to carry out my projects for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early child marriage abolition in Kenya. We still have a long way to go and I believe that Kenya has already banned FGM in these communities, but at the end of the day it is still being practiced in some communities. What I believe is, we need to stand our ground and continue to educate women in these communities. Not only women but also the men too.
