Socialite Scarlet Wahu died of excessive bleeding

Socialite Scarlet Wahu, who was brutally murdered inside an Airbnb apartment in South B, Nairobi County, on the night of Wednesday, January 3, 2023, died of excessive bleeding.

On Friday, January 5, a postmortem was conducted on the body of the socialite who was buried on Saturday at her family home in Kamulu, which revealed that she bled to death.

Ms Wahu, who is also the younger sister of controversial preacher Victor Kanyari, was in the company of a man identified as John Matara who is the main suspect in the murder.

Makadara police boss Judith Nyongesa said the police found the girl had bled to death.

“The suspect cut the woman’s vein connecting to the heart which is why she died faster. We could not save her,” she said.

Already, detectives investigating the case have received another complainant who said that Matara had locked her up inside an Airbnb and demanded money as he tortured her.

The woman who spoke to the media in confidence due to the sensitivity of the matter said that the man tied her hands and legs and kept on assaulting her as he demanded more cash.

In Ms Wahu’s case, which has now exposed the modus operandi of Matara, the two arrived at the South B-based Papino Apartments and entered house number Y32.

CCTV footage seen by this reporter clearly indicated that all was well between the two.

They arrived in the apartment in the basement and used a lift up to the fourth floor, where the house is located.

Ms Wahu was dressed in a red dress, a blue denim coat, and black high-heeled shoes, while the man was dressed in a blue shirt with black stripes, a khaki trouser, and boots.

The house they had spent the night in was an Airbnb, and nobody realised that anything was amiss until the wee hours of Thursday morning when a guard alerted the owner that a man was leaving the premises with blood-stained clothes.

Ms Florence Ngina, the owner of the house in which Ms Wahu’s body was found, has told detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) that it is the man who booked the house and they were to stay there for a night.

“I received a call from the gateman who said that the tenant was running away with blood stained clothes. I rushed to the house but found it locked, we opened it using spare keys and found the body of a woman lying in the leaving room,” Ms Ngina told detectives investigating the brutal murder.

Ms Ngina, who was accompanied by two of her colleagues, then went to South B police station where they reported the matter.
