Son of former City MP Betty Tett loses bid for bail

The adopted son of former assistant minister Betty Tett has lost his bid to be released on bail.

Mr David Tett wanted to be released on bail pending the hearing of an appeal against his death sentence for robbery.

He was sentenced to death after being found guilty of participating in a robbery at his foster parents’ home in Karen, Nairobi.

He has lodged an appeal at the High Court and wanted to be released on bail pending the hearing on grounds that his health was failing while in prison.

But High Court Judges Msagha Mbogholi and Lydia Achode rejected his request, saying there were no exceptional circumstances to warrant his release from prison.

The Judges said that Mr Tett lost his innocence after he was convicted and sentenced to death for the robbery and cannot be trusted to honour a bond.
