Sonko: My choice of Miguna for deputy governor stands

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has said he will not be forced to change his decision on his choice of lawyer Miguna Miguna as the nominee for deputy governor.

Sonko said his nomination of Miguna to replace Polycarp Igathe stands and that it is only awaiting vetting and approval from the County Assembly.

“I have chosen Miguna as my deputy and it is the assembly which will decide,” Sonko said on Sunday during a church service at A.I.P.C.A in Njiru Ward.

This was Sonko’s first public appearance in Nairobi since it was reported that he had relocated county operations to his Mua Hills home in Machakos County.

The City Hall boss reiterated that he would not be distracted by cartels hellbent on sabotaging him, saying that he has a good working relationship with all ward representatives in Nairobi and are working as a team, despite the claims that they have strained relations.

IMPEACHMENT

“I will not give room to those who want to derail my vision. My focus is service delivery to Nairobians,” he said.

On corruption that has plagued the country, Sonko challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to make sure that those behind the maize scandal and National Youth Service saga face the full force of the law.

The City Hall boss was accompanied by several MCAs among them majority leader Abdi Guyo and Chief Whip Chege Mwaura.

Mr Guyo appealed to Nairobi residents to give the governor time to deliver his mandate, reiterating that they will not impeach him.

“We will never ever impeach Sonko, take it to the bank. Cartels have no role in Sonko’s leadership,” said Guyo.

The Majority Leader urged President Kenyatta to intervene and deal with cartels frustrating the governor.

“Let the Governor be respected and given enough security. President Kenyatta should move in and ensure that this issue is solved,” he said.
