Here’s Sonko’s gift to anxious Kidero-era staff

Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko has said he will not sack any county staff inherited from Evans Kidero’s  regime, but warned that those found to be corrupt will not be spared.

Addressing the media on Tuesday at City Hall, Mr Sonko said that his administration would not victimize any worker on the basis of who they supported during the General Election.

He said he would continue working together with every staff without threats of sacking or harassment.

“In many counties, workers have been fired but we will not do the same here in Nairobi. Let us stop sacking workers without any mistake just to settle political vendetta,” said Mr Sonko.

A section of county governments in the country have been on a sacking spree especially workers who are not loyal to them.

DEMOCRATIC VIRTUE

In a rare show of democratic virtue, Mr Sonko asked fellow governors to respect rights of workers and not sack them just because they did not support them during their political campaigns.

He, however, urged his colleagues to sack staff who have been found as incompetent or corrupt.

“I would like to tell the new governors to respect workers and their rights. I have retained the employees and even the guy who was preparing tea for Mr Kidero is still working for me. Even the typists and receptionists,” he said.

“I know those who did not vote for me and supported my opponent but elections are now over. Let us work together to the betterment of Nairobi. Politicking is now over,” he added.
