Sonko guarantees Conjestina Achieng decent livelihood upon full recovery

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has guaranteed ailing retired Kenyan boxer Conjestina Achieng a decent source of livelihood even as she continues her recovery process.

Mr Sonko said upon full recovery, Conjestina who has been at Mombasa Women Empowerment Network Hospital in Miritini since July last year, will be able to make a living by working in one of his luxury clubs in Mombasa.

“I have already prepared a good plan for her where she will also be earning a salary. She will be the overall assistant head of security and head of all female bouncers at Club Volume Mombasa at night & during peak hours/holidays,” Sonko said.

The former governor said once she is discharged from the facility, Conjestina will not go back to her home in Siaya County, but will instead serve as the head trainer in all the gyms in his establishments, which include Salama Bling Beach Resort and Kimeremeta Safari Lodge among others.

Sonko has been offering Conjestina moral and financial support ever since she fell ill. Last year, he visited Conjestina on birthday and presented her with gifts.

At the same time, media personality Carol Radull has shared pictures of the boxer which appeared to show she is on the road to full recovery.

“Eight months in the centre in Mombasa and my girl Conjestina Achieng looks so good. Work in a gym awaits her upon completion where she will be training young boxers,” Radull said.

The renowned Kenyan pugilist’s health-related issues started in January 2011 when her father appealed to Kenyans to help him take her to the hospital after her mental health deteriorated.

Conjestina has since been in and out of hospital in different health facilities, including Mathari Hospital which specialises in mental health-related ailments. In 2016, the former boxer was among the patients who escaped from the Mathari Hospital but was later captured and re-admitted to the ward.
