Sonko reveals grandchild’s gender as he welcomes Senator Anwar into the family

Embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko took some time off from county politics on Tuesday to mark his 45th birthday in style.

Surrounded by his family and close friends, Sonko took the opportunity to reveal the gender of his second grandchild from his first-born daughter Saumu.

He also formally welcomed Saumu’s boyfriend Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip into his family.

The governor, via social media, addressed rumours about Saumu and her second pregnancy, saying that he was glad to be a young granddad again.

“Shida yetu wakenya nikuogopa aibu ndogo ndogo. Be proud of urself no matter how bad the situation is & appreciate your family. As I thank God for another additional year on my life & as one of the youngest grandfathers, I’m glad that my grand Dorraa Sasha will soon have a kid sis,” Sonko said.

He also talked about his current predicament, saying he has taken a break to spend time with his family.

“I take this opportunity to ignore the current situation that I’m facing for a while and join my family to thank God for the love of life on this great day of my life,” he said.

Last month Saumu shared a picture of herself on Instagram revealing her baby bump.

The couple were on the headlines for all the wrong reasons after being attacked by an armed gang at a city nightclub.

The senator was hospitalized after sustaining injuries during the incident.

A security guard, David Kombo, has since appeared in court to answer to charges of assaulting the senator and Saumu.

He denied the charge and was freed on cash bail of Sh30,000.
