Sonko shells out Sh5m to honour late dad with live TV coverage
Flashy Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko shelled out millions of shillings to honour his late father Gideon Kivanguli with live coverage during the burial in Ukambani on Tuesday.
The funeral was covered live on KTN.
The event that ran for almost four hours cost Sonko about Sh5 million, according to calculations by Nairobi News, which are based on the advertisement rate card.
The station charges Sh1.2 million per hour, excluding a 16 per cent Value Added Tax. We could also not establish if he got a discount from the station.
The burial that happened at Mua Hills in the family land was attended by masses of people including Governors, MPs’, Senators as well as high ranking people from all walks of life.
The family house is also quite something.
Sonkos’ dad, who died at the age of 66 years, was laid to rest in a coffin that was encrusted with gold and diamond imitations.
The coffin was carried by a convoy of more than 60 top-of-the-range vehicles and 10 outrider motorbikes from Lee Funeral Home. This caused huge traffic in Nairobi in the morning.
