Sonko’s wife cuts short vacation, hosts Christmas party for former street urchins

Nairobi county First Lady Primrose Mbuvi on Tuesday cut short her family vacation in Mombasa to attend an early Christmas party for rehabilitated street children.

Primrose told former street children at Makadara Rehabilitation Centre that she left her children in Mombasa to come and join them.

She explained that the former street children were also her children hence the decision to celebrate early Christmas with them.

“Asubuhi nimepanda ndege nikakuja kutoka Mombasa, nimeacha watoto wangu Mombasa kwa sababu yenu. Nimeacha my family Mombasa kukuja kushare the spirit of Christmas na nyinyi kwa hivyo mkiniona hapa mjue mama county anashughulikia watoto wote. Kwangu hakuna watoto wangu na nyinyi, nyinyi wote ni watoto wangu,” she said.

BURSARIES

During the Christmas party, KCPE candidates from the rehabilitation centres who will be proceeding to high school were given bursaries.

Governor Mike Sonko who made a surprise appearance at the party encouraged the children to work hard in school, saying the county will pay their school fees.

“Wale wamefanya mtihani pongezi kwenu, usiogope hata kama ulifeli sisi tutawasomesha hivyo kwa sababu mungu asingeweza kupea kila mtu akili asingeweza kupea kila mtu utajiri kwa hivyo serikali yetu tunajali wote maskini na matajiri,” he said.

The governor mentioned that for those that failed will also undergo vocational training to gain skills.
