Sony Sugar drop two goalkeepers following Adira’s arrival

Sony Sugar have dropped five players including reserve goalkeepers Ronnie Kagunzi and Jaseck Gathongo. This, according to the Kenyan Premier League official website, follows the club’s acquisition of Jairus Adira from Chemelil Sugar.

“The two goalkeepers are out of contract and we have decided not to retain them. As the league is getting tougher, we need to reinforce all our departments, thus we have had to release them to create space for a few other new players,” Sony Sugar coach Zedekiah Otieno said.

Other players released by the 2006 league champions are defenders Anthony Odinga and John Bosco, plus strikers Andrew Anton and Kennedy Otieno.

“We have only dropped two players, the rest left out of their own volition and we are in the process of recruiting, a process that could conclude by the end of the year,” Otieno added.

Charles Odette, who was a nominee for Defender of the Year last season, left the sugar millers early this month for newly promoted Posta Rangers and Otieno says the club is still on the lookout for a replacement.
