State House driver charged with ferrying stolen goods
A State House driver was on Thursday charged in a Nakuru court with theft.
Mr Albert Teken Kiptui appeared before Chief Magistrate Geoffrey Oduor and was charged with using a government vehicle to ferry stolen goods.
Mr Kiptui is a long serving driver attached to State House Nakuru.
The court heard that jointly with others, he broke into a building and stole 400 bales of hay worth Sh 160,000 that belonged to Mr Peter Kipyegon.
The suspect is alleged to have committed the offence on the night of May 23 in Rongai, Nakuru County.
According to prosecution, the suspect broke into the complainant’s store and stole the grass which he loaded into an lorry of registration number KAN 372N before speeding off.
The suspect and his accomplices were arrested by police officers after being intercepted at Salgaa trading centre along the Nakuru – Eldoret highway.
The court heard that the suspect was reported by neighbors who saw him and his accomplices in Mr Kipyegon’s compound.
He failed to take plea on the charges as the police sought to complete investigations. He was released on Sh 50,000 cash bail.
The case will be mentioned on May 29 when the suspect is expected to take plea.
