State House welcomes Raila’s election petition

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday welcomed Raila Odinga’s petition challenging the presidential results of the just concluded elections.

National Super Alliance (Nasa) presidential candidate has moved to the Supreme Court to contest President Uhuru Kenyatta win in the August 8 poll.

State House released a statement on Sunday to say that the President is glad that Mr Odinga had chosen to file a petition in the Supreme Court.

“They have made it clear that they are dissatisfied with the results announced by the IEBC. The proper place to contest the IEBC’s findings is in the court of law designated by the constitution to handle that process, which has the power to call for evidence, and to issue a binding verdict,” said State House spokesperson Manoah Espisu.

He added: “The President reiterates that electoral disputes and grievances ought to be settled by legal and peaceful means, and that the police will maintain law and order.”

Mr Odinga on Wednesday termed Mr Kenyatta’s victory as “computer-generated” .

Nasa’s mission in the top court, Mr Odinga said, is to “demonstrate to the whole world the making of a computer-generated president.”
