Stop being petty, Savula tells Raila

Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has blasted Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga for being petty over the issue of President William Ruto meeting Members of Parliament.

Mr Odinga is record for calling for the resignation of eight legislator from his party who met President Ruto last month at State House, Nairobi.

But while speaking to Nairobi News, Savula said the ODM leader’s sentiments are uncalled for and that MPs are only doing what they are supposed to do.

“If I was a Member of Parliament and in opposition, I would call out the president if necessary, but when it comes to matters of improving your constituency, I don’t really see the reason why they would hesitate meeting the president. Raila is just being petty,” Mr Savula said.

The eight ODM legislators who met the president are Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda, MPs Phelix Odiwuor (Lang’ata), Mark Nyamita (Uriri), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Paul Abuor (Rongo) and Walter Owino (Awendo).

Mr Odinga was quick to label the leaders as traitors, saying they lied when they stated that they only attended the meeting to follow up on developmental pledges President Ruto promised to initiate in their constituencies when he toured the Nyanza region in January.

“The days when MPs used go and see mtukufu rais are gone. If you want to go and see the president as a person of power and status, go but if you want to go and talk about issues that affect the party then you must be given permission by the party beforehand. These people must be seen for what they are, traitors in the course of a revolution,” Mr Odinga said.
