Strathmore look to avenge defeat
A mouth-watering clash is in the offing when National Women’s Hockey League champions Telkom Orange take on bitter rivals Strathmore Scorpions at the City Park Stadium tomorrow.
The game comes barely days after the teams clashed in the final of Africa Cup Clubs Championship in Kampala where Telkom beat Strathmore 2-0 to retain their crown.
Favourites Telkom will be looking to enhance their chances of defending their title when they take to the pitch in the 3pm match. However, Strathmore are not sitting back to suffer more humiliation but are plotting revenge.
Strathmore coach Meshack Senge said they have corrected their mistakes and are well prepared for the showdown.
“We have worked hard in training, improved our backline, penalty shots and corners. I am confident we will overcome Telkom,” said Senge. Fifteen-time champions Telkom will be out to extend their lead at the top of the standings when the league resumes after a three-month break.
Telkom have 12 points from four games, two more than Strathmore who are also undefeated in their league campaign.
In another women’s match, Multimedia will fight it out with Mombasa Sports Club at the same venue at 1.30 pm.
In the men’s Premier League, champions Nairobi Simba can minimise the distance between them and leaders Police who have no game this weekend. Simba face Parkroad on Sunday in a late kick-off. Simba were also in Kampala for the continental club championship but suffered a poor outing.
