Students sent home for having wrong plates

Close to two hundred students at Noonkopir Girls Secondary School in Kitengela were on Friday sent back home for not reporting to school with specified plates.

According to a parent, who did not want named, the students were last year told that each class will have a particular unique colour for their melamine plates.

“I have paid the required amount of school fees and it is surprising that my daughter has been sent home over a melamine plate. I am told it supposed to be blue in colour,” said the parent.

The students who failed to comply with the new rule were on Friday asked to go buy the plates.

NoonKopir secondary was recently elevated to a senior provincial school.

“Why must my daughter be sent home over a plate valued at shs200,” complained another parent.

In a telephone interview, the school principal Mrs. Mary Mwangi failed to divulge reasons for the new rule, only insisting on a face to face interview.

“We sent the students home but for you to understand why we did so you must come to our office to establish why we decided to do so,” said Mrs. Mary Mwangi.
