200 men have committed suicide in Nyahururu in one year – police

Police in Nyahururu have raised an alarm over the high number of suicide cases among male adults in the county.

The latest case was of a young man who was found hanging on a tree outside Nyandarua North Deputy County Commissioners Office in Nyahururu town on Monday morning.

The recent wave of suicide has seen three cases reported over the weekend.

Nyandarua North Officer Commanding Police Division Timon Odingo said more than 200 suicide cases have been reported in the area since June 2016.

He attributed the rates to quick temper that seemed to characterize men in the area as the main cause of suicide incidents.

YET TO BE IDENTIFIED

Confirming the latest incident, Mr Odingo said the man, who is yet to be identified, was spotted by a night guard.

“The night guard reported to have noticed a lifeless body of a man early this morning as he left work,” said Mr Odingo.

In an incident, a man from Karai village in Ndaragwa area took his life over the weekend after he allegedly failed to convince his family to allocate him a portion of land.

“Another man drowned himself in the same area after he went missing following a misunderstanding with a family member,” added the OCPD.

The three bodies are lying in Nyahururu County Referral hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
