Suspect held as wife’s body found

KNH.

A police officer alleged to have killed and disposed of his wife’s remains in a dumpsite in Ruaraka will spend more days in the cells to allow investigations to be completed.

Justice David Majanja allowed an application by the prosecution seeking to have Mr Nickson Chepkwony held in custody for another week to enable the police to secure the evidence of crucial witnesses.

Mr Chepkwony, was arrested on December 24, 2013 at Allsops on Thika Road after a search had been instituted by fellow police officers, and held at the Muthaiga Police Station.

His wife, Felister Awino, was found dead on the morning of December 22, 2013 at a dumpsite inside the GSU Camp headquarters at Ruaraka.

Investigating Officer Darius Sowene told the court that witness statements place the two together on the night of December 21 at around 8pm.

A post-mortem exam is yet to be conducted to establish the cause of death and the police officer is also supposed to undergo mental assessment.

“The mental assessment and postmortem report delayed,” said the prosecution officer.
