Suspected stupefying gang member charged with Sh1.5 million theft
A suspected member of a gang that is suspected of stupefying substance to unsuspecting revelers before stealing from them has been remanded in custody after denying theft of Sh1 million from a businessman.
Ibrahim Mwangi Kiria was remanded at the Industrial Area Remand Prison until April 19, 2023 when his case will be consolidated with another in which Everlyn Wambui Mutura, Janet Wanjiru Ngugi, and David Kariuki Wanjao have been charged with the same offense.
Kiria denied four counts of conspiracy to commit a felony, stealing, stupefying, and engaging in organized crime.
Milimani law courts chief magistrate Lucas Onyina heard that Kiria while in the company of others who have been charged stole Sh1,154,081 at Absa Bank Kenya Limited, Juja Road Branch in Kiambu County on the night of March 20/21,2023.
Besides the cash the accused jointly with others before the court also stole two mobile phones make Samsung S9 valued at Sh50,000,a Samsung S22 valued at Sh105,000, two debit cards (ATMs), a wristwatch worth Sh150,000 and national identity cards in the name of Paul Maingo.
The prosecution stated that the value of all that was taken from Maingo was Sh1,459,081.
Kiria was also charged with administering a stupefying drug to Paul Maingo on the night of March 20/21,2023.
The accused was separately charged with acting in concert with others and committed a series of offenses namely stealing for the purpose of obtaining financial benefit.
In the conspiracy count, Kiria was accused of conspiring to steal from Paul Maingo at DJ Club at the Kimbo Junction along Thika Road.
It is at the same joint the gang of four administered the said stupefying substance on Paul Maingo before stealing from him cash and other personal effects before abandoning him.
Onyina allowed a plea by the prosecution to detain the accused at the Industrial area prison remand home until April 19, 2023 when the case will be consolidated with that against Wambui,Wanjiru and Kariuki.
Onyina said after the consolidation a pre-trial date of the case will be set.
