Muchai suspects charged with murder, robbery with violence
Seven suspects arrested in connection to the killing of Kabete MP George Muchai were on Friday charged with murder.
The suspects were charged in the High Court in Nairobi, but were later taken to a magistrate’s court, where they were additionally charged with robbery with violence.
The seven are Mr Erick Muyera Isabwa, alias Chairman; Mr Raphael Kimani, alias Butcher; Mustafa Kimani, alias Musto; Stephen Asitiva Lipapo, alias Chokori; Jane Wanjiru Kimani, alias Shiro; Margaret Njeri, alias Waciuri; and Simon Wambugu Gichamba.
They were charged with murdering the MP, his two bodyguards Samuel Kimathi Kairikia and Samuel Lekakey Matanta and his driver Stephen Ituu Wambugu on the night of February 7 on Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi.
At the High Court, the accused did not plead to the charges as they were not represented by a lawyer.
Justice Jessie Lessit directed the deputy registrar to appoint a lawyer to represent them before they plead to the charges on March 19.
The seven also appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Enock Cherono and denied the charges of robbery with violence.
The court will rule on their bail application on March 23.
