Gor Mahia apologise for refusing to use ‘bewitched’ dressing room
Kenyan champions Gor Mahia have reportedly apologised for refusing to use a changing room at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The team avoided the changing room on Wednesday so as to ‘avoid witchcraft’ that could influence the outcome of their semi-final match against their Tanzaian hosts Azama on the Cecafa Kagame Cup.
The tournament’s organiser revealed on Thursday that the Kenyan club has since apologized over the incident.
“Nobody has blocked Gor Mahia or any team from using the dressing rooms and in fact we have received an apology from the Kenyan delegation over the same. So that’s now behind us,” said Cecafa secretary general Nicholas Musonye.
Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr has said he did not influence the incident.
” I don’t understand the reason (why my players shunned the dressing room) but I am told it also happened in 2015. The rooms were all locked and we decided to use the available space for our preps.”
A senior player of the team who spoke to Nairobi News off the record insisted that the dressing had been ‘laced with medicine’ to ‘harm’ players.
“They had laced the dressing room with medicine. They wanted to harm us. We were tipped off in advance and had to stay away. We cannot harm our careers,” said the player who features in an attacking position.
