Teen arrested on suspicion of killing 254 fashion founder in the US

Police in the United States have arrested a teenager who is suspected of shooting dead Mike Mulwa, an Atlanta based Kenyan, 10 days ago.

Birmingham police late Tuesday afternoon announced the arrest of 18-year-old Chandler Bryant who is charged that on June 3 he shot dead 29-year-old Mike Ngangi, also known as Mike Mulwa, during a robbery at the Citgo service station.

According to local news, the teen also has an outstanding robbery warrant with another law enforcement agency in Jefferson County.

Birmingham police Sgt Bryan Shelton said East Precinct officers were dispatched to the store on a robbery alarm. When they arrived, they found two people attending to Mulwa, who had been shot.

Mulwa, who was the founder of #254 clothes label, was taken to UAB Hospital where he underwent surgery but he died about 4:30 am on Sunday June 4, 2017 at the hospital.

THE MOTIVE

Shelton said it appears robbery was the motive. “Investigators are sure an altercation took place inside the location, and at some point the victim was shot,” Shelton said. The victim was working at the location.

Family members said he told a friend by telephone that he had been shot and asked that friend to call 911.

Authorities haven’t said how they identified Bryant as the suspect in Mulwa’s killing. He was arrested by the US Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Task force members were searching for Bryant on the unrelated robbery warrant, but knew he was the suspect in Mulwa’s killing.

They received information that he was at a home on Huffman Road, and he was taken into custody without incident. He is being held without bond.
