Teen threatens to commit suicide in school pupil’s delivery saga

A 16-year-old Form One student accused of impregnating a class eight pupil who gave birth inside a classroom has threatened to commit suicide.

An administrator who is privy to the saga said the teenager was “disturbed” after the incident was covered in the media.

“He jot down a note, threatening to commit suicide over the incident,” said the administrator.

The administrator said the girl was an orphan and was under the care of her aunt who did not detect the pregnancy.

“She had even attended county ball games at the beginning of the month after being selected to represent Naivasha Sub County,” said the administrator.

The 13-year-old class eight pupil was hospitalised and later discharged after sustaining injuries while giving birth unattended, inside the school compound.

RISKY BIRTH

Though the baby died less than 12-hours later, medical personnel were shocked by the incident.

The medical superintendent in charge of the health facility, Dr Joseph Mburu termed the birth as “risky.”

“She is lucky that she had a successful delivery as the risks involved included obstructed labour and injuries to the birth canal,” said the medic.

He said the child died as results of breathing related complications, but said the mother was discharged after recovering.

The teenage mother was pupil at St John Primary School where fellow pupils alerted the school administration about the incident after they spotted the girl bleeding.
