Teen gang arrested with a gun and knife in city centre
Four teenage boys were on Friday afternoon trailed and intercepted by detectives in the city centre who found them carrying crude weapons and a home-made gun.
The gang was arrested a few metres from the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), along City Hall Way.
The arrest was made as Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed was overseeing preparations of the Tokyo International Conference of Africa’s Development (Ticad) to be held at KICC from August 25.
The detectives had relied on footage from CCTV cameras to trail the four who were carrying the weapons in a backpack bag.
Police said cases of teenage gangs robbing members of the public have been on the rise in the city centre.
They associate the surge in crime by teenagers to the school holidays.
The suspects were whisked to the KICC Police Station for further interrogation.
