The day Cleophas Malala vowed to storm Raila Odinga’s Karen home
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) secretary general Cleophas Malala recently publicly vowed to lead protestors in storming Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s house.
Speaking at the UDA delegates meeting at Machakos University on March 24, 2023, Malala who also is a close ally of President William Ruto, warned he was ready to lead the party’s members to invade Raila’s home.
“We have told you (Raila) that since you have said you will be leading demonstrators to State House, I as the secretary general of UDA will also take our party members to demonstrate to your home in Karen if you go to disturb our President at State House,” warned Malala.
Malala, who unsuccessfully contested the Kakamega gubernatorial seat in the August 2022 polls, has never actualized the threat.
But then, three days after he made the threat to invade Mr Odinga’s private premises, suspected goons destroyed property and smashed windows at the East Africa Spectre Limited building along Mombasa Road, Nairobi.
Incidentally, the attack coincided with Mr Odinga leading countrywide demonstrations in a move he says is aimed at putting pressure on President William Ruto to lower the cost of living and dialogue on electoral reforms.
The premises host Mr Odinga’s family business.
The motive behind this attack is yet to be established.
Police are also yet to comment on this incident while Mr Odinga has publicly criticized it, and referred to the goons as ‘cowards’.
The vandals did not break into the gas cylinder manufacturing and distribution company.
Humphrey Waswa, the company’s Security and Safety Manager while addressing the media said the goons escaped after committing the crime
The unknown people threw stones and broke office windows belonging to Yvonne Odinga – the wife of Raila Junior.
Waswa told journalists that Ida Odinga’s office windows were also broken.
“Mama (Ida) was not in. Fortunately, today she did not come in and neither did Madam Yvonne,” said Waswa.
As the intruders pelted stones, police arrived and the goons ran away. “We saw the guys in the car dishing money to those who had been throwing stones,” said Waswa.
