Care for these children. Knowing well that there are cartels in the city, formed precisely for the purpose of begging, Daniel Kanyiri wonders why City Hall has not seen fit to protect the rights of children who are forced to sit beside their presumed parents for the purpose of provoking pity among the passers-by. He terms it as a most concerning oversight by the Kidero administration and prays that it is not an indicator of where its priorities lie. Kanyiri says “no child in the city should be used for selfish ends.”

Support our girls. Sports, Arts and Culture Cabinet Secretary, Dr Hassan Wario, reasons Milka Ochieng, has a chance to do what his predecessors have not succeeded in doing- nurturing football among young girls and seeing them play at a professional level. Milka, says there are many girls in the estates, who love the game, but are forced to watch their male counterparts play the game and some get lucky to play for big national teams. “Poverty and stigma are holding them back.”

Two years is enough time. Traders who have built on the Outer Ring Road reserve only have themselves to blame if the earth movers descend on their properties, says Pamela Omala. Two years since when the government issued notices, she says is enough time for any trader to bring down his or her structure brick by brick and move to a suitable place. Pamela was therefore surprised to hear some of them asking for more time. She says “they should not hold back county development.”

Muggers freeway. The section of Kenyatta Avenue between Panafric Hotel and Serena is becoming a muggers freeway, observes Cleopus Mbugua who adds that only a fortnight ago, what is suspected as a simple attempted mugging left one man dead after he was hit on the head. Ironically, the section is well lit, but this, he says, has not served to deter the criminals who normally waylay their victims early in the morning or any time after 10pm.

Baffling policemen. Serah Amatta is baffled that even with the adoption of new traffic lights, police officers are still competing with the lights to direct traffic. In the end, she says, it is a totally confusing affair as motorists don’t know whose directions to follow. She deduces that these officers, who often look like they went through the traffic directing crash course are to blame for much of the traffic in town especially during the rush hour.

Step up. Garbage has been driving away customers from Josephine Weru’s shop in South B, next to the Total Petrol station. She is bitter that as the heap of the filth keeps growing by the day, the National Environmental Management Authority (Nema) and the County Government appear to have chosen to sit pretty and watch. Her landlord, she says, did not help when confronted. She would like Nema, whose head office is in the area, to act on the matter and area leaders to step up as well.
