Timbe linked to Uganda Cranes job

Sofapaka coach Sam Timbe has been linked with a lucrative move back home. The Ugandan trainer, who has been at the helm of the 2009 Kenyan Premier League  champions for the past two seasons, is being mentioned as a possible candidate by the press in Kampala to take over the national football team.

Uganda Cranes current head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic is currently under pressure to quit from the role, following a shock exit to Mozambique in the All Africa Games qualifiers.

As a result, Timbe, who has won league titles in his homeland, plus the Rwanda and Tanzania leagues alongside three regional Cecafa club titles, is being touted as a possible replacement for Micho.

Taking over the national team job will translate into a promotion for the soft spoken coach, who deputised Bobby Williamson during the Ugandan national team’s arguably most successful spell between 2008-2011.

According to the Daily Monitor, Timbe faces competition from compatriots Moses Basena, George Nsimbe and another former Sofapaka coach Sam Simbwa for the coaching role, should it fall vacant.
