Tom Mboya Primary confirms Governor Joho was its pupil
A primary school has confirmed that Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho was its pupil in 1980s.
Tom Mboya Primary School head teacher Suleiman Babu said the embattled Governor Joho sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams in 1988.
Responding to a demand letter by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) that he confirms Mr Joho’s primary education background, Mr Babu said the flamboyant governor was a time keeper at the school.
GRADES
He got a C+ in English, B- in Kiswahili and Mathematics and D+ in Science, Religious and Agriculture.
EACC, which is looking into Mr Joho’s education background, wanted to know if he was enrolled in the school and if he sat for his KCPE exams.
“With reference to your letter requesting (the institution) to facilitate investigation. I hereby confirm that Hassan Ali was a pupil in this school.
His admission number was TOM 2722/80.
“Hassan Ali, index number 16010/019, sat for the KCPE in the year 1988, there by adopting his surname Ali Hassan,” reads the letter to the EACC.
TESTIMONIALS
In the letter, Mr Babu added that testimonials including A copy of admission book, KCPE certificate and Knec results were also given to EACC.
“Apart from being active in football, Ali Hassan was also the school time keeper (bell ringer),” adds the letter.
Sources revealed that Mr Babu spent more than two hours at the EACC offices in Mombasa on Wednesday before submitting the report.
In a letter sent to Mr Babu, EACC’s deputy chief executive Michael Mubea sought information on Mr Joho’s primary education background.
Mr Joho on Wednesday said the investigation into his education was an attempt to intimidate and stop him from running for the governor’s post.
READ MISCHIEF
Mr Joho’s allies also read mischief in the anti-graft agency investigations, saying the body had failed to fight major corruption in the country and that it was now being used to settle political scores.
Mr Joho dismissed investigations by EACC over his primary education terming it an attempt to intimidate and stop him from running for the governor’s post.
Mr Joho had said that the government was investigation his other certificates including those from nursery school.
“I am aware that they have also launched probe on my birth certificate, let them do so. If you want to get my marriage certificate, go ahead and do so if it will help you. But what I know is that they will not take what rightfully belongs to me,” said Mr Joho last week.
