Top 10 TV and radio personalities who have quit recently
The last few weeks have seen a hive of TV and radio celebrities quit their positions to venture into businesses or just move on.
Here are some of the top ten most popular media personalities who have quit.
1. DJ Krowbar
DJ Krowbar, who had been on KTN since 2008, last week bid farewell to popular TV gospel show Tukuza in a teary goodbye to his fans.
DJ Krowbar revealed to Nairobi News that he is quitting to concentrate on other projects he has started.
“I will still be a DJ, but I want to concentrate on TV production from now on,” he said.
He also said that he would like to give younger DJs an opportunity to grow as they fill his position.
2. Sheila Mwanyigah
Celebrated media personality and musician Sheila Mwanyigah left the Nation Media Group after 11 years of service.
Sheila, who has been a radio and TV presenter at NMG – most recently as the co-host of NTV’s morning breakfast show AM Live – announced her move in a lengthy post on Facebook on Thursday.
The sassy presenter who started thanked all her listeners, viewers, co-hosts, producers and managers she had worked with all through her career.
3. Kendi Ashitiva
KTN’s Tukuza co-host Kendi Ashitiva quit her job as well. She began her TV career two years ago but her time to retire came earlier than expected.
She is now focusing on empowering women through motivational speaking and mentorship.
4. Joy Muthengi
She worked for Capital FM before quitting and joining Ebru Africa TV.
She fell out with management at Ebru. Muthengi was hosting “Sugar and Spice”, a women’s TV show that engages different societal figures over meals from delicious recipes from all over the continent.
The show featured renowned chefs alongside other guests who discussed topical issues day and get to be part of the taste-test with the chef and the host.
5. Angela Angwenyi
She had been in the radio industry for more than 10 years until June 2015 when she quit her Nation FM job.
Angela Angwenyi had also worked at Kiss FM. At the time of quitting she said she wanted to concentrate on other things including possibly joining TV.
6. Ciku Muiruri
Ciku Muiruri, famous for her Busted show on Nation FM and Classic FM quit her radio career in 2013 after 15 years in the industry. She had started as a voice over artist at her cousin’s production firm.
She also write’s for Daily Nation’s Zukqa column.
7. Nick Mutuma
He is an actor, model and television host. He has been acting professionally since 2012 with the first series of Shuga.
He also featured in the drama Tabasamu (Citizen TV) and also used to be a presenter on 91.5 One FM.
In 2014, Nick landed a job to host Africa Magic Entertainment’s television show Mashariki Mix with Sarah Hassan.
8. Yvonne Maingi
The former child television presenter turned NTV news anchor Yvonne Maingi said that she had taken a sabbatical for school and will be off the screen for a year to focus on her PhD dissertation.
Yvonne who made a television comeback in September last year told Nairobi News that she will be back on television.
“I have just taken a sabbatical for school as I am at a very critical stage of my studies where I need to focus more on research,” she said.
The PhD Climate Change candidate at the University of Nairobi hopes to graduate at the end of the year.
9. DNG – Davidson Gubuini
He is a renowned M.C. and founder of Hustle Yako. He used to work at One FM.
DNG said he left the radio station after one of his fans engaged him in the morning discussion.
Besides being an Emcee DNG is also a Marketing and Communication consultant at KAMPKenya & PRISK Kenya, CEO 254 Entertainment & 254 Digital, and TV Host BaQeNation and SakataMashariki.
10. Caroline Mutoko
After years of hosting the popular Kiss 100 FM The Big Breakfast show, the prolific media personality Caroline Mutoko called it a day.
The radio host, who was popular for her no-nonsense discussions and approach to real everyday issues, assumed a new position at the station that is under the Radio Africa brand.
She was often referred to by the media as the queen of Kenyan radio, a title she often disputes.
