Top policeman in Meru arrested for soliciting bribe

A top policeman in Meru County has been arrested for soliciting a Sh35,000 bribe from a teacher.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has confirmed the arrest of Tigania West District Criminal Investigations Officer James Oludhe on Monday.

“We have today arrested the DCIO. In fact the officers are on the way with him. He solicited for Sh35,000 from a teacher, Mr Stanley Mwiti, who had a court case so that he could not write a letter of interdiction for him to TSC (Teachers Service Commission),” an EACC official said.

EACC Upper Eastern regional manager Ignatius Wekesa confirmed the arrest but could not give more details.

The teacher is said to have reported the case on Friday and recorded the statement on Saturday. He then proceeded to record the conversation .

EACC officials from the regional office based in Isiolo have intensified their fight against corruption leading to arrest of a number of suspects since the office was opened early this year.
